New Bedford Police make a drug bust near an elementary school.

Detective Captain Steve Vicente says members of the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau executed a search warrant at 37 Morgan Street late Tuesday night as the result of an investigation by Detective Donald Williams.

Police say the target of the investigation, 23-year-old Jaymie Farland, was selling heroin out of his third floor apartment, which lies within 300 feet of the Carney Academy Elementary School.

During the search, police found 164 individual bags of heroin with an estimated street value of over $3,000, along with $160 cash. Police also found a single round of 9mm ammunition.

Farland was arraigned Wednesday morning in New Bedford District Court on charges of unlawful possession with intent to distribute heroin, unlawful possession with intent to distribute heroin within 300 feet of a school, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
