Everything awesome usually debuts in Europe first (except for football, Buffalo wings and Kate Upton). The latest innovation that Europeans will have long before Americans: glow-in-the-dark roads, which will debut in The Netherlands in mid-2013.

Studio Roosegaarde and management group Heijmans will begin using a photo-luminising powder that replaces road markings in the Dutch province of Branbant in mid-2013. The powder will charge in sunlight and then remain illuminated for up to 10 hours.

Additionally, the companies will paint snowflakes and other markings on the road designed to be viewable only in certain conditions (freezing temperatures, rain, etc.). The aim of the entire initiative is to possibly reduce energy costs and improve safety.

It's only a matter of time before someone figures out how to update live game scores, TV shows and annoying political ads and transpose them to the road surface.

Don't judge too harshly: running over politicians' faces doesn't sound that bad right now, does it?
