Before you judge me, this is one of those "try it before you knock it" situations.

It's safe to say that just about everyone enjoys French fries. It's a staple side dish to just about any entree and complements cheeseburgers in the best way. This just might be the strangest combination to date, but trust my advice:

If you haven't dipped your fries in clam chowder, you're missing out.

It sounds unorthodox but it's deliciously satisfying. Think about those who dip their fries into Wendy's Frosty's. It's not much stranger.

The average American has no problem dipping their fries in ketchup. Some drizzle it on while others squeeze it on the side to dip. I take a different course of action. First, I add a few drops of Tabasco hot sauce into my chowder, mix it around, and then saturate my spuds in the soup.

The hot creamy texture and taste mixed with the saltiness of the fries blend well. I've been longing for the day that a restaurant adds "chowder fries" to the appetizer menu but until then, I'll have to order these two separately.

Finally, the creamier and thicker the chowder, the better the taste and satisfaction; it sticks to the fries better. The next time you go out to eat, order yourself a cup (or bowl, depending on how ambitious your appetite is) of chowder and a side of fries for the win.

You'll thank me later.
