Freetown Police Searching for Repeat Break-In Suspect

FREETOWN (WBSM) — Freetown Police are searching for a suspect with a history of breaking into homes and who once allegedly beat a man with his prosthetic arm that has a hook for a hand, after he was spotted in town earlier today.

According to police, Brandon Demoranville, 37, was seen walking on the property of 92 Chace Road in East Freetown at about 1:30 p.m. today by officers conducting a routine patrol. That address was the site of a murder on September 20 in which Matthew Lucas, 58, is accused of killing his girlfriend, Heidi Chase, 44.

DeMoranville, who lives at 122 Chace Road, has five active warrants out for his arrest, police said.

One of those warrants relates to a felony charge stemming from DeMoranville’s arrest by Freetown Police on October 20, 2022 for allegedly breaking into and stealing from a home on Abraham Avenue. Police said DeMoranville was released on bail for that crime but allegedly failed to appear in court as scheduled.

When spotted at 92 Chace Road earlier today, DeMoranville fled from officers on foot. Police set up a perimeter with help from Raynham Police and Massachusetts State Police, including the K9 and AirWing units.

A community advisory was also issued via the Freetown Police website and social media channels, and the Freetown-Lakeville School District was advised of police activity in the area. The home is less than two miles from the Freetown Elementary School.

However, authorities were not able to locate DeMoranville and the search was later called off.

Police also pointed out that the search for DeMoranville is “entirely unrelated to the prior crime scene and murder investigation” that occurred at 92 Chace Road on Wednesday.

“The alleged offenses prompting the issuance of the warrants are non-violent in nature,” police said. “There is no perceived danger to the public at this time.”

DeMoranville has a long history of breaking into homes, vehicles and sheds.
