Beginning November 1st, six stores in Fairhaven that also contain pharmacies will no longer be allowed to sell tobacco products.  Wal-Mart, CVS, Rite Aid, Shaw's, Stop & Shop and Walgreens each received a letter from the town's Board of Health informing them of the ban.    The board wants to make it more difficult for people to buy cigarettes, in hopes they will kick the habit.

Tobacco will still be available at about 16 other vendors in Fairhaven, including the convenience stores.   As an ex-smoker, I agree that anything done to discourage smoking is a positive step.   It's unhealthy and expensive.  So hopefully this move will matter in some way to some people.
