Reconnecting With Friends at the Fairhaven Homecoming Fair [TOWNSQUARE SUNDAY]

Nothing says "small town America" like the Fairhaven Homecoming Fair. It's scheduled for Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on and around Center Street and the Town Hall in Fairhaven.

The event dates back to the early 1900s, when it was a six-day celebration. The current sponsor, the Fairhaven Improvement Association, began its involvement in 1976.

Homecoming Committee Chair Barbara Acksen joined us this week on Townsquare Sunday to run down the history of the fair and why it's important.

"We have thousands of people crowding the center of Fairhaven," Acksen said. "The idea is to bring people together, re-connect with one another and help one another out."

The Homecoming Fair will feature dozens of vendors, food, free entertainment, activities for children, along with an art show and much more. Crafters include jewelry makers, wood working and pottery.

Food choices are also plentiful, from the Wild Sausage Guy, Alligator Bites and Strawberry Shortcake.

You can also grab a shuttle bus at Walnut and Washington Streets to Fairhaven High School where tours are being conducted of that historic building.

There is plenty to do and see at the Fairhaven Homecoming Fair, Acksen said, along with catching up with folks you may not have seen for awhile.

"People come back to connect with old friends they haven't seen for years. You probably will bump into five or six of them at the Homecoming Fair," she said.
