Additional Information

On February 2, 2009, Andrea Gomes lost her husband and her two daughters lost their father, Eddie Gomes, to suicide. Eddie left us too early with too much life left to live and many memories left to make. In an effort to keep Eddie’s memory alive, Andrea founded a fundraising event called “Together We Can Save a Life” to raise awareness for mental illness, depression and suicide prevention.
Proceeds from the 4th Annual “Together We Can Save a Life” Masquerade Gala will benefit the Samaritans of Bristol County, Inc. (SAMS). The Samaritans of Bristol County, Inc. aims to prevent suicide, bring awareness to the causes of suicide, diminish the stigma of suicide and support the survivors of suicide victims.

SAMS accomplishes their mission by hosting a suicide prevention and crisis hotline, available to the public, 7 days a week from 8 AM to 11 PM. They use Samaritan volunteers who are compassionate and listen in confidence, without judgment to anyone who is feeling suicidal, overwhelmed, upset, anxious, burdened, depressed or lonely. SAMS also offers assistance to the survivors of suicide victims through a bi-monthly support group, Safe Place.

Today, Andrea, a survivor of a suicide victim and a Board Member of the Samaritans of Bristol County, Inc., is asking you to support the mission of SAMS and her “Together We Can Save a Life” Masquerade Gala which takes place on Saturday, October 17, 2015 from 6pm-11pm at Hawthorn Country Club in North Dartmouth, MA.

Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States, and the 2nd leading cause of death for those under the age of 18. Samaritans all across Massachusetts are making a positive impact on the fight against suicide.
