Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs is warning drivers to avoid turtles that may be trying to cross a busy road. It's risky for you and other drivers if you pull over unsafely to help the little guy (or girl).

My dad had a personal experience with this because he almost hit a turtle one day driving to work. He got out of his car to help the poor thing, bringing him back to safety to the place he started from, thinking he was helping him out. He then saw the same turtle crossing the same road on his way home. He called animal control and they explained the same thing to him. The turtle has a destination, and will not stop until he/she gets there. You're better off moving the turtle off to the side of the road in the direction that he was headed. Or he'll just keep trying to get there.
