After years of trendy baby names, parents these days are instead searching the family tree for their little ones monikers.

Interestingly enough my husband and I were having the same thoughts when it came to naming our impending arrival. Seems more parents are looking to their family ancestry when choosing their child's name rather than trying to stay on track with baby name trends.

So what are some of the classic baby names that are poised for a comeback?

Here are the top choices for girls and boys according to Good Housekeeping.

Girls:

  1. Alice: Over 100 years ago Alice was one of the top baby names in the country. Now parents are finding it once again.
  2. Cora: I think Downton Abbey should get some credit for this turn of the century name coming back into fashion.
  3. Edith: Again Downton Abbey should get some credit as this classic name starts to grow again in popularity.
  4. Hazel: Peaking in popularity back in 1901, Hazel is back on the rise. This one could be due to the female lead having the same name in The Fault in Our Stars...or just cause it's a pretty cute name
  5. Hattie: I'm reminded of NBC's Parenthood when I hear this name and others may be too. Hattie had completely fallen of the charts around 1970, but has since been making a serious comeback.
  6. Josephine: Another very pretty vintage name that parents are finding their way back to these days.

Boys:

  1. Archie: British parents are reportedly turning to this classic name these days, but it's on the rise in the States as well. And if you go with Edith and Archie you could have your own All in the Family family of names!
  2. Arthur: Straight out of Camelot, Arthur is as classic as it gets. If you are thinking of an old fashioned name, this one definitely gives you that.
  3. Frank: Simple and strong, parents are going with plain old Frank over Franklin. It hasn't been a super popular name since the 1800's, but Franks are popping up on the playgrounds these days.
  4. Louis: Perhaps Prince George having Louis as one of his middle names has helped this boy's name coming back into style, but whatever the reason the name has been gaining popularity.
  5. Oscar: This is another classic name that has been increasingly popular across the pond and has slowly been growing in the US too. Though it's never been a wildly popular name stateside, it is a good way for new parents to keep this classic and unique.
