Since Boston College football head coach Jeff Hafley left the Heights to become the defensive coordinator in Green Bay, rumors have begun swirling about who will replace him.

Sports Illustrated floated the name Bill O'Brien last weekend. The St. John's Prep Class of 1988 alum is looking for a job after New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick wasn't rehired for the 2024 season. A new Patriots head coach means new Patriots coaching staff.

So, there's that.

What about taking this thing to the next level?  Bill O'Brien would be great but wouldn't the other Bill be greater?

Why Bill Belichick Should Become BC's Next Head Coach

Bill Belichick is a football coach. That's what he does. He has spent every fall of his adult life molding football players into football teams.

Now that all of the NFL head coaching positions have been filled, it's not ridiculous to think he'd be open to coaching at the college level. Can you imagine the immediate impact Bill Belichick would have on recruiting players for Boston College?

If you are looking for a fast track to the NFL, can you think of a college coach who could better prepare you for that world than Bill Belichick?  What parent wouldn't want to send their student-athlete to Chestnut Hill to learn from this guy?

The benefits for Boston College are many. They'd get the aforementioned recruiting advantage. Belichick would also sell tickets, and the entertainment value of the post-game press conferences would shoot up off the charts.

The benefits for Coach Belichick? He could end his career with a purer form of football.  I'm not saying money doesn't come into play with Division 1 football, but there's just something magical about college rivalries that dates back well beyond the beginning of pro football of any type. He also wouldn't have to move, and he really loves the fishing off of Nantucket.

Realistically, this is beyond a long shot. It's one in a million stuff, but as Lloyd Christmas once said in Dumb and Dumber, "So, you're telling me there's a chance!"
