Another Artic Blast headed our way, and many Southcoast residents are using heating alternatives to keep their homes warm this winter.

However, these alternative heating sources can also increase the risk of fire and health problems.

Whether you're using wood pellets, woodstoves, space heaters or something else...alternative forms of heat are "hot" right now, but we want to make sure you stay safe.

If you're trying out any heating alternatives this winter check out these tips from NCNow News to remain safe:

- Pellet stove placement must allow access for proper venting and electrical sources. These stoves must meet required clearances.

- Wood stoves and space heaters should be tested by Underwriters Laboratories (UL).

-  Regularly cleaning your fireplace will keep it free of obstructions and creosote.

-  Have a professional chimney sweep inspect your fireplace annaully.
