It was a typical Monday morning in New Bedford down by Rt 6 and 140 until a mother duck was crossing over Rt 6 with her baby ducklings behind her and soon realized half of her babies were missing.

The Standard Times reports that employees working at Dr. Joseph Glennon’s optometry practice nearby, witnessed the baby ducklings had gone missing as they crossed the road.  They figured out pretty quickly that the ducklings fell into the sewer grate.

They quickly called New Bedford Police and Fire Department who in turn called animal control.  After arriving on the scene the firefighters opened the grate and safely rescued the baby ducklings and returned them to their mother.

The animal control officer brought the ducklings to Buttonwood Park where he thought they may have come from.  One of those rare, happy ending stories in a city that sees too much bad happening, this was a great way to start the week :)
