The people who look up all the time said WTF this week. No I can't use any other terminology because that's what pretty much happened.Astronomers have discovered that Polaris, a.k.a the north star, is getting brighter. They say the star has suddenly reversed two decades of dimming and not only that..It is expanding at more than 100 times the rate they expected and nobody has any freaking clue why now.

According to The Daily Mail, Scott Engle of Villanova University in Pennsylvania re-calibrated historic measurements of Polaris by Ptolemy in 137 C.E., the Persian astronomer Al-Sufi in 964 C.E., and others. They investigated the fluctuations of the star over the course of several years, combing through historical records and utilizing the Hubble Space Telescope. Polaris is 2.5 times brighter today than in Ptolemy's time, which they say is a remarkable and ridiculous rate of change for space. If you aren't stupid, you understand how cool something like this is. What am I saying? Even if you are stupid, it's still the brightest thing in the northern sky, grab a compass and don't figure it out without your smartphone. Just look up and feel small. Can't feel anymore human than that.
