A few days ago New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell sent a letter to the state's Department of Public Health saying that he is opposed to a medical marijuana dispensary in the city.   But now, the New Bedford City Council has addressed a letter to the same department voicing their support of medical marijuana.   The council noted that in November of 2012, New Bedford voters backed medical marijuana 2 to 1 when it appeared on the ballot.

There are currently 2 groups hoping to set up shop in New Bedford, and they are filing papers in Boston to open a dispensary in the city, and submit the $30,000 application fee.   Both hope to open a cultivation center as well as a dispensary.  Mayor Mitchell said he is in favor of a cultivation facility as long as it would be located at the New Bedford Business Park.
