Softball was a huge part of my life growing up. I spent hours on the field at practice, at games, and at tournaments, loving every second of it. So, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that I love the 1992 film A League of their Own.

I may not play softball anymore, but the love for the game is still there, and I’m excited to hear that a plan for A League of Their Own reboot series just got the green light at Amazon Studios.

Prime Video tweeted, “28 years ago, Penny Marshall told us a story about women playing professional baseball that up until then had been largely overlooked.” Now, the legend returns thanks to the work of co-creators Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham.

"We grew up obsessed with the film, like everyone else. Three years ago, we approached Sony with the idea of telling a new, still overlooked set of those stories. With the help of an enormously talented team of collaborators, an amazing cast, and the devoted support of Amazon to this project, we feel beyond lucky and excited to get to bring these characters to life," Graham and Jacobson said in a statement.

People reports that the creators aim to keep the spirit of the original movie alive while incorporating modern-day conversations about race and sexuality.

I immediately asked myself, “Will we see Madonna, Geena Davis, and Tom Hanks back on the field again!?” It doesn’t look that way. The series will present us with new faces of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

There is no premiere date just yet, but there’s no crying in baseball, so I’ll patiently wait for the announcement.
