There's a new type of car that will be hitting the road soon!

According to The Huffington Post, Google has announced that it will be putting self-driving cars on the road. Last Friday, the tech giant stated that it plans to start testing its small, egg-shaped model car on the streets of Mountain View, California. The mission of Google is to have cars that are driverless available to the public within the next five years. However, the prototypes that Google plans to test on the road this summer will not top the speed of 25 miles per hour. The reason why the Google driverless car can only reach 25 miles per hour, is because it has a lack of safety features and no airbags.

In the next stage of Google’s project, there will be safety drivers inside the car.  According to Chris Urmson, the director of Google’s self-driving car project, Google’s self-driving test car’s will have a removable steering wheel, accelerator pedal, and brake pedal that allow the driver to take over if needed. According to NBC Bay Area.com, the main goal, is for these computer-controlled cars to eliminate human error. Each year, an estimated 90 percent of the 1.2 million road deaths occur from human driving errors. With the future of transportation turning to driverless cars, the number of accidents and traffic jams will decrease drastically.
