Here on the Southcoast, I either meet people or hear of those who are planning a visit to Portugal.

The Zeiterion Theatre  has been host to many fadistas over the past years. In the Portuguese genre of music, Fado, artists of notoriety such as Camane, Carminho, Mariza and Ana Vinagre have graced their stage. Vinagre was originally scheduled to perform on March 5, but New England winters being what they are, the show was snowed out. Her concert has now been rescheduled for April 30 at 7:30 p.m. R

Fado week at the Z concludes with Camane & Carminho, a powerhouse of Fado music stardom that will shake the foundation of the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center on Saturday, March 7 at 8 p.m.

Fado music is the heart of the Portuguese soul. It's one of the oldest urban folk music genres in the world. What the blues is to the Mississippi Delta, Fado is to an emotional, indefinable yearning for love and for times past.
