With Thanksgiving right around the corner, families are getting ready for more than just a home-cooked meal.

One of America's favorite pastimes is the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, watching as giant balloons and marching bands fill the streets of New York City. Sure, you can watch it on your TV from the comfort of your own home on Thanksgiving morning, but wouldn't it be better to be there in person?

Well, if New York is too far for you, then head on down to Plymouth, America's hometown.

Plymouth’s 26 Annual Thanksgiving Parade will celebrate 401 years since the very first Thanksgiving was celebrated. According to Trips To Discover, Plymouth ranks as one of the 11 best places in America to watch a Thanksgiving parade.

Here's a glimpse of last year's parade.

What and when is the Plymouth Thanksgiving Parade?

According to USA Thanksgiving, the opening ceremony starts at 9:30 a.m and the parade starts at 10:30 a.m., proceeding from City Hall to the Plymouth Community Center. Performers will share the history of the nation.

What to expect during the parade.

Plymouth does an excellent job of accurately representing Thanksgiving’s history and displaying the historical events. Celebrate Thanksgiving with brought-to-life pilgrims, Native Americans, soldiers, patriots and pioneers. There will also be custom-built floats, equestrian groups, fife and drum, and drum corps for the entire family to enjoy.

Will there be places to sit and watch?

For the best view, arrive early, bundle up with the family and grab a spot along the waterfront as U.S history is presented.

What to expect before the parade kicks off

From 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on the corner of Plymouth Boulevard and 34th Avenue N., you can enjoy other local festivities such as the flyover and food festival. Before enjoying the parade, how about a savory taste of the area’s best chowder, soups and desserts?

Stick around for after the parade

The fun doesn’t have to stop there. After the parade, hang out and enjoy beer and wine on the waterfront, the Historic Village in Brewster and many other fun activities.
