It ain't easy being cheesy, so buckle up because a flavorful new business is rolling into New Bedford this September, and it’s all about gooey grilled cheeses, bold beverages and heartwarming family hustle.

The Melting Spot is a gourmet grilled cheese food truck run by 16-year-old Naseya DaSilva and her mother Sarah Beth DaSilva. The West End-based truck is a passion project for the New Bedford duo, born from long work days, a shared love of food, and a dream to serve the community something different.

“We both work 12-13 hour shifts,” said Naseya, who juggles her role at Sunrise Bakery with helping manage the food truck. “This is something that lets us spend more time together, do more with our church, and create menu items that bring people joy.”

What’s on the Menu?

While grilled cheese may be the heart of The Melting Spot, this is far from your average white bread and American slice.

“We’re doing a triple cheese melt with garlic butter, a breakfast melt with bacon and eggs, a steak and cheese on Texas toast, and even a pizza grilled cheese,” Naseya said. “But my favorite: the apple, cheddar, and onion melt. You can even add bacon to that one.”

There’s also a taco melt that gives crunchwrap vibes, and the menu is expected to evolve with customer feedback.

“We want people to tell us what they want to see on our menu,” Naseya said.

Trendy Beverages with a Twist

On the drink side, The Melting Spot is leaning into the rising trend of dirty sodas, which are flavored soft drinks with cream, fruit and syrups that have taken social media by storm.

“Dr. Pepper with lime and vanilla, Coca-Cola with cream and citrus, root beer with ice cream flavors, and an orange Crush with French vanilla,” Naseya listed off. “They’re super popular right now.”

For dessert lovers, the sweet-tooth menu will feature milkshakes such as chocolate-covered strawberry, brownie batter and chocolate banana bliss.

Homegrown and Heartfelt

The Melting Spot will operate four days a week and aim to align its schedule with the New Bedford school calendar, serving breakfast and lunch near the high school in the West End, with student deals on deck.

The location, which the family is keeping slightly under wraps, is already lined up and close to the New Bedford High School area.

“We’re excited to be nearby and serve the community we grew up in,” Naseya said.

As they prep for a September 1 opening, the DaSilvas are fine-tuning their flavors, many of which are already being tested in their kitchen.

“We’re just excited to share our food truck journey with the community,” Naseya said. “The love and support already means everything to us.”
