NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man is arrested after police find drugs and alcohol in his car.

Members of the New Bedford Police Department's Gang Unit were patrolling the North End at around 11 p.m. Wednesday night when they observed a vehicle with defective equipment driving in the area of Mt. Pleasant Street and Highland Street.

When police stopped the vehicle, the driver began acting in a suspicious manner. Police searched the vehicle and found cocaine and an open bottle of liquor.

Police arrested the driver, Angel Perez, 28, of 773 S. First Street, apt. 3, New Bedford, on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of an open container of alcohol, and defective equipment.
