New Bedford Police are searching for a man they believe broke into a convenience store over the weekend.

Police say Penney's Variety store at 181 Arnold Street was broken into around 7:30 Sunday morning. The building was damaged during the break, and a large quantity of cigarette cartons were taken.

Surveillance footage led police to identify the suspect in the break as 49-year-old Richard Nunes. Nunes' last known address is in Maynard, Ma., but police say he has had prior ties to New Bedford and may still be in the area.

Police are asking for the public's help in locating Nunes. Anyone with information of his whereabouts is encouraged to call police on their tip line, 508-992-7463, or email them at tip@newbedfordpd.com.
