Could wind turbines become a thing of the past?  Nearby scientists at the Mass Maritime Academy are testing an underwater turbine that can harness the power of the ocean.

According to CBS Boston, the technology has the potential to completely shake up the way we produce energy.  The method is called "hydrokinetic energy solution".

technology advances to actually turn that fluid power into some useful electricity.

Wind turbines like the ones in Fairhaven (and the Mass Maritime Academy) use the wind to harness power.  Now, this technology could use the current in the ocean to create power.  The water turbine has been successfully running at the Mass. Maritime Academy for about a month.
