Massachusetts has a ton of history - I don't need to tell you that.

But I did not know that America's oldest car collection was in the Bay State...and it is WICKED COOL.

Antique car lovers are die-hard. Obviously gearheads (car junkies) love older cars, but I think it is one of those "hobbies" that grows on you.

Even if you do not qualify as a "gearhead," seeing a carriage from the 1800s, a first of its kind Rolls-Royce, or other antique cars is wildly cool. Just seeing how far cars have come in 100-200 years is super cool.

There are two auto museums in Massachusetts that have a collection of these fascinating cars.

Larz Anderson Auto Museum, Brookline, Massachusetts:

America's oldest car collection can be found on the grounds of the Anderson Carriage House in Brookline, MA.

According to the museum's website, the Andersons family began collecting cars with a 1899 Winton 4-hp Runabout...which is still on permanent display at the museum.

Today, you can tour the museum or participate in a variety of events that are all around admiring the beauty and craftsmanship of some of the oldest vehicles in the world.

Heritage Gardens and Museums, Sandwich, Massachusetts:

The other unique automotive museum is an hour south of Brookline, MA, in Sandwich, MA.

The Heritage Garden and Museum's auto display is spectacular and any gearhead's ideal afternoon.

With models ranging from a 1899 Winton Motor Carriage to a 1946 Mercury Woodie Wagon, this museum has show-stopping cars for kids and adults to enjoy.
