This is your sign to expand your family and adopt a new pet.

August is Clear the Shelters month at Potter League for Animals in Middletown, Rhode Island. In an effort to get more animals into forever homes, the shelter will be offering discounts on adoption fees and hosting a one-day adoption event at the end of the month.

Clear the Shelters Month

Clear the Shelters month is an annual event that encourages families to come into the shelter and leave with a new best friend.

It used to be a one-day event, but like most organizations, COVID-19 forced the Potter League to adapt.

“During the pandemic, many shelters were running appointment-style, so we made it a month-long event,” said Kara Montalbano, the director of marketing and community relations for the shelter. “Pre-Covid, we would host an adoption event and it was awesome. People would be lined up, ready to roll, so this year, we are offering a hybrid event.”

How It Works

Potter League decided to keep the month-long trend, giving people the opportunity to meet with all the animals and get to know them before making a decision. On Aug. 27, the shelter will host a special adoption event, offering huge discounts on adoption fees.
Families are encouraged to drop into the shelter all month long and spin their giant prize wheel at the time of their adoption.

Prizes include 15%, 25% or 50% off the adoption fee.

Time to Adopt

The number of available animals is constantly changing, but Montalbano shared there are plenty of dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and critters waiting for good homes.

If you are ready for a new addition to your family, take a drive over to Middletown this month and help this local shelter clear the cages.

If SouthCoast Dogs Had a Dating App, It Would Look Something Like This

August 26 is International Dog Day, and it got me thinking. What if there was a way for dogs to connect with other dogs in the area to make new friends? Or maybe even find love? Twenty-six dogs living on the SouthCoast sent me their profile picture and bio. Let's see the eligible pups.
