Are Massachusetts Schools Saying Goodbye To February Vacation?
For most Massachusetts schools, this week is February winter break but not for the students of Taunton. According to CBS Boston, Taunton school officials decided to change the calendar to make February break a four-day weekend instead of the typical full week. Students must be in school for 180 days, by law.
Julie Hackett, the Taunton Superintendent, said, "Snow is very difficult and year after year we found ourselves going closer to June or the beginning of July." Parents are backing the school district saying that they would rather have their children on vacation during the summer.
The neighboring superintendent in Middleboro believes doing away with February vacation could become a trend in the near future.
As a parent, I would not be a fan of seeing an end to February vacation. I think kids and teachers both need a break from one another. What do you think about the idea?
