Whether you're heading up around Boston or down along I-195, these are times you don't want to be on the road this Thanksgiving weekend.

Unless you actually like traffic (or just have no other options), everyone can agree traveling on Wednesday November 22nd is just foolish. Especially if you are leaving in the 2-4 p.m. time frame. You are just bound to sit in traffic if you try it.

On Thanksgiving Day the earlier the better. Most people eat around 2, so trying to travel to nearby family between 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. is expected to be the worst time frame on turkey day.

If you are traveling to see family, most travel sites say to try and extend your trip. Looking to leaving right away on Friday November 24th? Leaving before 6 a.m. is the best advice and try to avoid midday traveling.

Saturday and Sunday late afternoon are actually the worst times to leave your Thanksgiving destination. Aim for hitting the road as early as you can if you depart over the weekend.

Overall the best time to leave for Thanksgiving out-of-town trips is Sunday November 19th. And the best day to return is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (though that may be way too much family time for some!)
