During a recent live broadcast with L.A. Cycle in North Dartmouth to celebrate their one year anniversary since opening up for business, I was told about a different yet extreme way to exercise. I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about trying the class, even with a free week's pass. Perhaps it was because 98% of people who attended the open house anniversary block party were women that intimidated me a bit, but I'm here to tell you that these "Spinners" are hardcore! Unlike most fitness or cardio-based classes that provide a break for water or rest, LA Cycle's spin class is a fast paced workout that is non-stop for 45 min straight!

The perfectly designed intervals activate every muscle in you body from head to toe. Yes, that's right, head to toe. Although the primary muscles being worked when riding a bike are the legs, this specific cycling class combines lower with upper body workout. For example, while peddling at a heavy resistance, you will be instructed to use your body weight to do light pushups and tricep extensions on the handlebars of the bikes. Definitely felt the spaghetti-arm effect by the end of the 45 minutes.

I will admit that I am extremely glad I stepped out of my comfort zone to give LA Cycle a chance. There will definitely be a return in my near future for round two or perhaps even three! In closing, if you're looking for a challenge that will push you beyond your comfort zone and threshold in the field of cardio, this is the class for you.

Don't get me wrong, the point of this post is not to scare you away from the idea, but instead encourage and entire you to try something different. The idea is not to race each other nor is it frowned upon if you don't last the entire class. It's the principle of finishing all in all, no matter how far you got.

Set goals in your life, hit them as hard as you can, then revisit them to conquer and progress yourself. Push your boundaries and you will find extraordinary results. Who knows, maybe spinning is your answer to a new you!
