A Brockton woman is facing charges after striking a Bristol County Sheriff’s Office van Thursday morning.

Jonathan Darling, a spokesman for the Bristol County Sheriff's Office, says that Deputy Patricia Allen was sitting in the van on Route 24 North near Exit 13a in Raynham around 3:10 a.m.

Allen was said to be at the beginning of a work zone behind a crew of workers picking up cones and signs with the van's emergency lights were on.

During this time the van was struck by a 2007 Jeep Compass driven by 29-year-old Maria Nunes-Saveiga of Brockton.

Darling said that after Deputy Allen’s vehicle was struck, she got out of the vehicle to check on the occupants of the Jeep Compass and stayed with them until EMS and State Police arrived on the scene.

Allen was still being medically evacuated as of Friday morning, however Darling says she wasn't seriously injured.

“Deputy Allen felt very fortunate that she got to go home to her four children. Others in her situation recently weren’t as lucky,” said Darling, “We’re urging everyone, especially with a holiday weekend upon us, to drive safely, slow down and to use a designated driver.”

Massachusetts State Police say Nunes-Saveiga was charged with OUI Liquor and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

She was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Taunton.
