This past summer George H.W. Bush celebrated his 90th birthday by jumping out of a plane. Now a New York woman has done him one decade better.

Eleanor Cunningham of Howes Cave, New York turned 100 years old recently and celebrated last Saturday by skydiving. It was her third jump since taking up the sport at age 90.

First off, let me say congrats to Eleanor for a successful jump and her bravery to do it in the first place. And of course happy birthday. But if I'm being honest, I am less impressed with people who are 90 and 100 jumping out of planes than I am with 20-year-olds willing to do it.

Here's my thought...

When you're 25, jump out of a plane and your chute doesn't open, it's a tragedy. People say you were a fool for doing it in the first place and wish you hadn't been such a dare devil.

When you're 100, jump out of a plane and your chute doesn't open, it's a pretty cool way to go. People ask your grand kids how you died and they get to say skydiving, grandma/grandpa was always such a dare devil. There's reverence there, not sadness. People are impressed you were living life to the fullest right up until the end.

So I think Eleanor had it right. Take up skydiving at age 90, not 20. Be a dare devil in your later years and then maybe you go out with a bang!
