Today NESN posted a poll for it's readers asking whether or not New England Patriots' fans feel like they should cheer Darrelle Revis, when he returns to Gillette Stadium this Sunday with the New York Jets.

The post came off the heels of Revis telling the media that he does not expect to be warmly received when he steps on the field for Sunday's divisional match up.

NESN's options for their poll were as follows:

Standing ovation; he helped us win a Super Bowl!

Polite applause; sure, but now he's a Jet.

Boo him; a Jet's a Jet.

Ignore him; Darrelle who?

There's one option they seem to be forgetting, however. Boo him; not for the simple fact that he went back to the Jets but instead for the fact that he couldn't keep his mouth shut this off season and repeatedly took shots at the Patriots and starting quarterback Tom Brady.

The fact that Darrelle Revis is not a New England Patriot and is instead a New York Jet is not really a reason to boo him. He did what he had to do this off season, because the Patriots did what they had to do. New England felt that the $20 million they would have owed him if they picked up the option in his contract for this season was too steep a price to pay, so Revis moved to free agency where he took the biggest deal thrown his way. You can't blame either side for that.

Where Revis left himself open for a lot of warranted criticism are the multiple times he put his foot in his mouth this summer. For example, he went on a social media tirade against angry Pats fans that were frustrated with his decision to rejoin the Jets. Within the multiple posts, Revis claimed that he was the reason the team won the Super Bowl last year and that he got Brady and head coach Bill Belichick their previously elusive fourth Patriots' Championship rings. He then claimed his Instagram account was hacked and that he had not made the comments.

He also retweeted a tweet from a sports website that said that Tom Brady was being suspended for his alleged role in the Deflategate scandal.

The moral of the story is that Revis should have just stayed quiet and not said anything about his former team this summer. He should have taken his max deal from the Jets, cashed his check and worried about playing.

Let's not discredit the fact that he was a major part of the team's defense last year. He wasn't the only star the team had though.

So when Revis rolls into town this weekend he should be boo'd. Not for his decision to take the money, which most of us would have done, but rather for the way he's gone about his business since his departure.
