Tragedy struck the Latin American music scene this weekend, when Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera was involved in a horrible plane crash, that resulted in her death.

For those of you unfamiliar with Jenni Rivera and her work, she was one of the biggest Mexican-American singers of the last decade. She was beloved by her fans, and made her fame singing in the genre of banda and nortena.

Rivera was born in 1969, and grew u in Long Beach, California. Her parents, Mexican immigrants, raised Rivera and her siblings in a very musical household. Rivera began singing in 1992, and has sold 15 million albums worldwide. She has made 13 studio albums, and was even the star of her own family based reality show, 'I Love Jenni', which began to air in 2011.

Jenni leaves behind 5 children from three marriages, her most recent to former MLB pitcher Esteban Loaiza.
