WESTPORT — Westport Police have sought an arrest warrant for 53-year-old man Philip Lafond, after police were called Wednesday to the Brookside Conservation Trail located at 1016 American Legion Highway for a male who exposed himself, and demanded sex from the adult male victim.

The victim subsequently ran from the area and notified police. He told police the suspect followed him throughout the wooded path while exposed when the victim ran from the area.

The suspect’s vehicle was described as an older model Jeep Cherokee, which police determined was registered to Lafond, with a last known address in Acushnet. The victim described his assailant as an older male in his 50’s with greyish-white lengthy facial hair and tattoos covering most of his body. The victim subsequently identified Lafond as the assailant.

Lafond is described as approximately 5-11 with tattoos on his neck and legs.

“It may be an isolated incident at this time, but are looking for anyone with information," said Westport Detective Jeff Majewski.

Lafond has a previous criminal history. In 1998, he received an 11-year federal prison sentence for his role in a December 1997 bank robbery in Cranston, Rhode Island. Lafond, then 34, years old, had driven the getaway car after his older brother Donald Lafond, Jr. had robbed the bank alongside a third defendant, William Sequeira. Donald Lafond was also charged with bank robberies in Boston and New Bedford. Philip Lafond also rammed police cruisers from three different departments before his car was forced off the road by a state police vehicle.

Southeastern Massachusetts has many beautiful walking paths but those areas are secluded. Westport Police are asking that people take normal precautions when walking alone. Be sure to bring a cell phone and items to warn someone away such as a simple whistle or personal defense spray. Personal defense spray such as mace is available to anyone 18 years of age or older and is sold in many locations.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Westport Police at (508) 636-1122.
