West Nile virus detected in Fall River and thought South Coast

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced Wednesday that West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes collected from the area near in  St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.

This oems after other recent  positive collections in the South Coast area . Wednesday, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced that the West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes collected from Swansea and Seekonk. DPH announced Tuesday that West Nile virus was detected in mosquitoes collected in Somerset.

Fall River residents who live in the area should keep their windows closed and refrain from going outside between the hours of 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.,” said Fall River Mayor Sam Sutter. “In addition, caregivers should ensure that children, elderly relatives and friends as well as pets follow these guidelines.
