WAREHAM - A Wareham man is being charged following a serious accident in the town Tuesday night.

Wareham Police say officers responded to a crash at around 6:30 p.m. in the area of Cranberry Highway and Weaver Street. Upon arrival, police saw a vehicle with extensive damage had flipped onto its roof, and a utility pole had been snapped at the base. Police found a significant amount of blood in the vehicle, but nobody was inside.

Police later found the driver about a mile from the scene on Charlotte Furnace Road at about 8:30 p.m.

The driver, Chad Buckingham, 41, of West Wareham, had sustained serious injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Trauma Center.

Police say as a result of the accident and his injuries, Buckingham will be charged with leaving the scene of an accident after causing property damage, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and marked lanes violations. Buckingham will receive a court summons to appear at Wareham District Court for arraignment at a later date.
