As of this morning, that new Wal-Mart Supercenter is up and running at the Crossroads at 24 retail complex in Fall River. The store employs nearly 300 full and part-time workers...with 87 new jobs just added.

The new 152,000-square-foot store - about the size of three football fields - is 50 percent larger than the previous location. The newly designed store features fresh produce, a bakery and a self-service deli.

At the grand opening today, the company will present $4,500 in grants to groups including American Little League and Fall River's Fire Department, Marine Cadets and Police Department.

The old location at the Harbor Mall on William S. Canning Boulevard closed its doors Friday.
