The New Bedford police officer that was run over by a dirt bike Monday night has been released from the hospital.

New Bedford Police Sergeant Candido Trinidad was released from Rhode Island Hospital late last night and is home recovering, according to Lt. Amos Melo.

Sgt. Trinidad was run over by a dirt bike rider as a gang of off-road vehicle drivers was being arrested in New Bedford's North End.

In addition to the nine people that were arrested Halloween night in relation to the incident, New Bedford Police are charging two additional people who will be summonsed into court:

  • Franco Santos, 28, of New Bedford, charged with reckless operation of a recreational vehicle, unlawful operation of a recreational vehicle on a public way, disturbing the peace.
  • Nicholas Santiago, 26, of Fall River, charged with reckless operation of a recreational vehicle, unlawful operation of a recreational vehicle on a public way, disturbing the peace.

New Bedford Police continue to investigate the incident.
