UMass Dartmouth Student Dead of Overdose Identified

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office has released the identity of the 20-year-old University of Massachusetts Dartmouth student that was found dead in his dorm room over the weekend.

The DA's Office says Colin Gear of Stoneham, MA, died of an apparent heroin overdose in his dorm room at Birch Hall on the UMass Dartmouth campus. Toxicology results are still pending, however.

Gear was found dead Friday night after a relative called the University asking them to perform a welfare check since they had not heard from Gear in over 24 hours.
