Two New Bedford men are under arrest after a broad daylight shooting that injured two people in the City's West End.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says police were called to the area of Chancery and Court Streets around 1pm Wednesday after reports of shots fired. Sgt. Emanuel Cabral was working a nearby detail when he heard the shots, and soon observed two men ducking in and out of a nearby yard before running off. Several officers converged on the area and arrested the two suspects and Park and Mill Streets.

The suspects are identified as Roberto Guerrero and Donald Venearble, both 26 of New Bedford.

Guerroro was in possession of a loaded .357 Ruger revolver at the time of his arrest. Shell casings found at the scene indicated a second gun was used in the shooting. Police soon found a Glock 9mm handgun in the basement of a nearby home. Police believe the Glock was the gun that was actually fired.

Police say the two men that were shot were sitting in their vehicle when the suspects walked up to the vehicle and opened fire. The driver, a 28-year-old New Bedford man, was shot several times in the left arm and has been transferred to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The passenger, a 22-year-old New Bedford man, suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh area. He's being treated for non-life threatening injuries at St. Luke's Hospital.

Guerrero and Venearble will be arraigned Thursday in New Bedford District Court on firearms and assault with intent to murder charges.
