When New Bedford cops came across at '98 Nissan Altima on Acushnet Ave near the entrance to Route 140, the car sped off.   The car had stolen plates, and the driver headed north on 140 with officers in persuit.   State police got involved and put tire strips across the road at Exit 9, causing the car to go out of control and off the road.  The driver, 25-year-old Luis Castro, and his passanger, 22-year-old Luis Adorno both fled on foot.  The New Bedford K-9 unit dog "IQ" helped find the driver hiding in a brushy area.  After Castro began kicking the dog, he was bitten on the leg.  He also began fighting with the officers, so they used a Taser and pepper spray.  Adorno was captured in a different location.  Both Castro and Adorno were arrested, and taken to St. Luke's for treatment of minor injuries.
