This bitterly cold winter caused one of the largest populations of Kemp's Ridley sea turtles to get stranded on the Southcoast, but now they have been returned to the warm waters of Florida.

Over 1,000 of these endangered sea turtles got trapped in Cape Cod Bay at the end of 2014 and were coming ashore causing many to almost die.

Luckily residents, as well as the Massachusetts Audubon Society, were there to help and many of the turtles were rescued and rehabilitated over the winter months at aquariums and animal care centers across the country.

And now some of the first of these rehabbed turtles were returned to the sea!

The SeaWorld Orlando Animal Rescue Team returned 17 juvenile Kemp's Ridley sea turtles to the warm Florida waters last week.

They were the first of a group of 72 Kemp's Ridley sea turtles that ended up in Orlando. The rest are still being cared for at SeaWorld Orlando and they say as soon as they regain their strength, they too will be returned to the ocean.
