Millions of Tommee Tippee sippy cups are being voluntarily recalled by the company due to a mold exposure risk.

The company posted the recall on their website earlier, noting that several different models of cup for ages 4 months to 12 months have the potential to develop mold on a valve inside the cup.

They describe the valve as a removable, one-piece white valve that sits inside the cup lid. If this valve remains wet and is infrequently cleaned it develops mold which could cause the child using the cup to become ill.

The company notes that the risk of gastrointestinal symptoms or infections in users with compromised immune systems is low, but they are still recalling the cups in the US and Canada.

The cups being recalled are the 4m+ First Sips Transition Cup, the 7m+ Trainer Sippee Cup, the 9m+ Sippee Cup, the 12m+ Sportee Bottle, the 12m+ Sipper Tumbler and the 9m+ Cute Quips Sippee Cup.

Though there are various colors of each models all the affected cups were sold between December 2104 and March 2016 in the US and Canada.

Models with different valves are not affected.

Consumers with these sippy cups are advised to stop using them immediately and to follow the instructions in the link below for a replacement.
