Two city men are dead of apparent drug overdoses.

New Bedford Police Lt. Al Souza tells WBSM News police and paramedics were called to a residence on School Street downtown at 2:30am Wednesday morning. Upon arrival, the victim was still breathing. He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital where he later died.

Souza says the symptoms the victim experienced up to his death were consistent with a drug overdose. His age was not immediately available.

Police also say a 22-year-old New Bedford man was found lying in a bedroom in an apartment in the 200-block of Belleville Avenue Monday night. That man was also taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The deaths are two of three suspected overdoses that resulted in death this week in the city.

A New Bedford woman was found outside of the Presidential Heights housing development in the North End Sunday night. She has since been identified by State Police. City police told WBSM News it appears the female victim had also suffered from a fatal drug overdose.
