NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Police are investigating a series of metal thefts that were reported Monday.

Around 9:30 a.m. Monday, police received a report that three manhole covers had been stolen from Brooklawn Park near the senior center.

Just before 10 a.m., police received a report that copper piping had been stolen from the basement of a vacant home on Summer Street. There were signs of forced entry.

And just before 11 a.m., police received yet another report of missing metal, this time in the parking lot of St. Anthony Credit Union at 1743 Acushnet Avenue. Police say a steel grate had been stolen.

New Bedford Police are unsure if the thefts are connected.
