Taylor Swift often comes under some heat for her lyrics, which can sometimes veer into the junior notebook doodle arena, but the girl is growing up. In an ode to a new romance, Swift paints a vivid picture of a first date following a rough breakup in 'Begin Again' -- and she sounds like a young woman.

"He didn't like it when I wore high heels, but I do," she begins, letting you  know that whatever sucker left her was probably insecure about his height (she's about 5'10", so we understand). From there, Swift tells a narrative with her song, explaining that her low expectations were more than exceeded by a real gentleman. "You pull my chair and helped me in," she sings, "and you don't know how nice that is, but I do."

Swift's country-tinged, soft ballad, which she teased on 'Good Morning America' as part of a massive roll out, will appeal to both of her core demographics: country fans and young pop fans. The song, the second single from 'Red' (due in stores on Oct. 22), is likely a calculated move to appease both fan bases following the pop flavor of 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.' Based on her iHeart Radio Festival performance, she knows just how important it is to keep both of those groups happy, and she's masterful and calculated at doing so.

It will also appeal to anyone who's felt less than appreciated by a suitor, whether she's 14 or 44. While when you consider the fact that she began dating her current beau, Conor Kennedy, when he was 17 and she was 22, it may be a little creepy to hear her sing, "You throw your head back laughing like a little kid," you still know where she's coming from. She's not settling, whether in her love life or her studio sessions. And for that, Taylor Swift, we salute you.
