MANSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — State police say a woman driving north in the southbound lanes of Interstate 495 in Mansfield collided head-on with another vehicle, killing both drivers.

The collision occurred just after 2 a.m. Wednesday.

The names of the victims were not immediately released, but they were described as a 24-year-old Middleborough woman and a 27-year-old Taunton man. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither vehicle had passengers.

It's unclear where the wrong-way driver entered the highway and the crash remains under investigation.

Troopers closed down all lanes except the breakdown lane during the investigation, but all lanes reopened as of 5:30 a.m.
