A home on Christie Lane in Taunton exploded Sunday afternoon.

The Taunton Gazette reports that home owner Laurie Beliveau, 52, managed to make it out of the home alive after an explosion and resulting fire burned her two-story residence to the ground.

The newspaper spoke with neighbors who said Beliveau told them she was in her bedroom when her closet door blew off and she ran from the house.

She also said her pet cockatoo was still inside the home and died in the fire.

The explosion happened just before 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon and the investigation into it's cause is ongoing.

The Gazette says a spokesman for Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, would only say that a gas leak or some other type of related malfunction “is a possibility.”
