For all you Starbucks lovers this news may leave you a bit disgruntled with the popular coffee chain.

The company announced that they are raising their prices, from 5 cents to as much as 20 cents, starting Tuesday.

The Associated Press reports that the price increase will affect small and large brewed coffees, which will raise the price about 10 cents throughout the country. A large coffee at Starbucks will now cost $2.45 at most U.S. locations.

Starbucks released a statement reassuring loyal customers that the change in cost was determined after an evaluation of financials and the attempt to strike a balance between providing a quality product, while still maintaining a profitable business.

The price hike mostly affects hot drinks so people who prefer cold drinks year round will not be bothered by the price increase. Lisa Passe, a representative for Starbucks, says this new price adjustment is expected to impact less than 20 percent of customers.

When Fall approaches the number of affected customers will rise due to the amount of people who purchase hot drinks as the weather cools.

Passe does say that the prices of food items are not going to change. This may be an effort to persuade more customers to try Starbucks food items, like sandwiches and pastries.

Treat yourself – just maybe stick with a medium coffee next time!
