Luis Suarez Isn’t The First Athlete To Sink His Teeth Into The Game

Uruguay’s Luis Suarez taking a bite out of Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during the 1-0 loss, which knocked the Italians out of the World Cup, brings back memories of some of some of the most infamous cases of high profile biting incidents in recent memory.

By the way, this wasn’t the first biting incident for Suarez. Just look back to 2013 and 2010. This guy is frozen in adolescent bad behavior! Moving on, remember “The Sound and the Fury” bout between Evander Holyfield and Mike “Chomp the Ear” Tyson? There was soccer player Francisco Gallardo who was so excited after Jose Antonio Reyes netted a goal, that he went a ‘bit’ too far and to bite Reyes’ penis through his shorts. Ouch! And there’s sports broadcaster Marv Albert whose bite marks on a companion were like love notes written in flesh.

And there are others, if you take the time to look them up. But, let me leave you with this great ‘mark’ in sports history. When Boston Celtics guard Danny Ainge attempted to tackle Atlanta center Wayne “TREE” Rollins during the 1983 playoff game, Rollins responded with a nasty bite into Ainge that required stitches and a tetanus shot. The Boston Herald responded by crafting a particularly witty headline in the following day’s paper: “Tree Bites Man.”
