A well known Southcoast restaurant has been seized by the bank and is going to be auctioned off next month.

Mattapoisett Chowder House, on Route 6 in Mattapoisett, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder on Wednesday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. and is open to the public.

The popular chowder house closed its doors suddenly last July after being seized by the bank for non-payment of taxes.

Due to the recession the restaurant seemed to suffer like many others in the Southcoast and closed a couple of times before permanently shutting its doors last summer. In March 2014 the restaurant was closed by the state for non-payment of meals and withholding taxes, but reopened later that month.

The restaurant is currently listed on the Commercial Realty Advisors website and is recorded as bank owned with some pictures of the dining room, bar and kitchen.

According to Wicked Local Marion, the owner Mark Koran bought the property for $500,000 back in 2006.
