If you've noticed an increase in those very annoying automated calls to your cell phone recently, you're not alone. It's estimated that over 30 billion robocalls were made here in America during the past year.

Massachusetts State rep William Straus of Mattapoisett has introduced a bill that would ban those calls to our cell phones. The measure was initially approved by the House last week, according to the State House News Service. It calls for harsh penalties for any automated phone call that uses computerized dialing and a computerized pre-recorded message. Calls from school systems and government alerts would not be included in the ban.

The unwanted robocalls were the number one complaint filed with the Federal Communications Commission last year. April 2018 was the busiest month on record for the number of complaints filed.
